It wasn’t immediately obvious to me that you can add shorcuts to the DiskStation Manager desktop by simply dragging icons to the desktop.
So in case weren’t aware of this either… now you are :)

My wife carries around a largish library of reference material on her iPad and in the past I used GoodSync and GoodReader WiFi File Transfer to keep the relevant folders in sync between iPad and MacBook. This worked fine but now with the DiskStation and GoodReader’s WebDAV support and Automatic Synchronization capabilities I’ve been able to simplify the setup and remove GoodSync and the MacBook from the equation all together. After purchasing my Synology DS1511+ it wasn’t very long before I wanted to access some video content on it from my Apple TV2. I was optimistic scepticle that this was going to be possible out of the box and I wasn’t wrong.
Apple only allows you to access content in your iTunes library via their ‘Home Sharing’ option. That wasn’t good enough. I definitely didn’t want to have to have a computer powered on, as a round about way of getting access to my DiskStation.
There had to be a smarter option.
Enter aTV Flash by FireCore. It does exactly what it says on the label: Supercharges your Apple TV. Dark clouds lifted to reveal sunny blue skies. I couldn’t have dreamt up a better solution myself :-) [click to continue…]

You’re probably already aware that your Synology Diskstation can send you email and SMS notifications and alerts, but did you know there’s a nice little service that will send realtime push notifications (for free) to your iOS device?
Personally, I didn’t want to pay for an SMS service, but I did want realtime alerts on my iPhone, so this replacement fitted the bill quite nicely.
The app and service I’m talking about is called Prowl. In their own words: “Prowl is the Growl client for iOS. Push to your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad notifications from a Mac or Windows computer, or from a multitude of apps and services.” [click to continue…]
